You're Engaged! Now What? How to start the planning process...

You've spent months maybe even years thinking about how your love would propose to you and now that its finally happened! The daze of staring at your sparkler and posting the hashtag #isaidyes has died down and its time to start planning! Not sure where to begin? Don't panic! Read on to learn what your first steps should be...

1. Money talks...have a serious conversation with your fiancé and parents about who will be paying for this blessed and expensive event and who will help contribute. Setting a realistic budget that everyone is comfortable spending is important to avoid disappointment when planning for your big day.

2.Hire an experienced wedding planner in your area that has relationships with venues and vendors and can save you money. Many couples think a wedding planner will be out of their budget, but a good planner will be able to negotiate with her preferred vendors to get you a better deal and in turn save you more money than you are spending on the planner.

3. Take a look at your calendar and select a few dates that work for your schedule and allow enough time to save for the wedding you are budgeting for. Try to be flexible with your date as most venues offer discounts for off peak months and days of the week.

4. Create a guest list...this will ultimately determine at least 50% of your budget at your chosen reception site. Many venues have head count minimums or maximums, so its important to determine what your approximate invite list amount will be before setting off to look at venues. Keep in mind that 10-20% of guests decline a wedding invitation.

5. Once your budget, date and guest list are set you can then move on to booking your other vendors such as music, photographers etc. your wedding planner will take you to meet with their preferred list of professionals in order to ensure you are working with the best while getting the best price.
