Tis' the season to say YES!
So you got engaged this holiday season! Yayyy! Congrats to all the new bride and grooms to-be. After the excitement of staring at your new bling comes the panic, "What should I do now that I'm engaged?" Well, visiting our website to hear about some tips and tricks is a great first step in your planning journey. Below you will find some of the advice I give to newly engaged couples who are not sure how to get started.
First, and most important:
Your engagement is one of the most special times of your life so enjoy the roller coaster of ups and downs that are sure to follow. Try not to let the stress weigh down the excitement of planning (this is why hiring a wedding planner is strongly advised..wink wink.) Remember that this wedding is about the two of YOU, don't try to please your friends and family by letting them take over with advise and suggestions that don't fit your style or more importantly budget!
Second, Set a budget and guest count
These two details will work hand in hand! The bigger the guest count the larger budget you will need. Your venue (with food and alcohol) will take up about 50-60% of your budget, you never want it to take up more than that as you will run out of funds for the other important elements. You will need to know these two details before shopping for a venue or speaking to a planner.
Find a wedding planner...It's worth the investment!
Most wedding planners offer a free consultation. Take a few up on the offer and learn about how the packages can help you. If you decide to make the investment make sure you feel comfortable with them. I always tell my prospective clients, if you don't love me after our initial consultation than keep searching for your perfect fit! You want to make sure you mesh and you can stand to spend countless hours planning your big day with that person. A good wedding planner, such as myself, will match you up with your perfect venue and dream team of wedding professionals that will make your wedding vision come to life! We become your wedding BFF and who wants to spend time with someone they aren't on the same page with...choose wisely!
Start following for inspiration
Social media is a great way to start gathering photos, trends and ideas for elements you want to be a part of your day. If you live under a rock and don't have Instagram, Pinterest or Facebook I would suggest signing up for accounts to start following your favorite businesses and designers! You will also want to set up a separate wedding email account to keep track of all the correspondence between you and your vendors!
Have fun! Grab some coffee or wine (lots of wine) and enjoy the quality time of wedding planning with your significant other! Set realistic expectations, compromise and talk to each other about what you want to prioritize on your big day. Communication with each other, your planner and wedding vendors will make the planning process and day of run smoothly so you can enjoy every moment. Happy Wedding Planning!
